For the past 35 years, Communities In Schools (CIS) has been a committed partner with school districts in its goal to both lowering dropout rates and increasing graduation rates. Each year the districts Administration outlines which schools we are going to support.

To fulfill this commitment, CIS assigns site coordinators to work alongside school administrators and school staff to develop a site plan that identifies, prioritizes and addresses school challenges, such as truancy, parent engagement, bullying, teen pregnancy, and academic support. Site coordinators determine goals with the approval of the principal to be accomplished through the delivery of a three tier program.

Tier 1 Widely available services designed to foster a positive school climate and address school-level risk factors.
Examples of services: motivational speaker for schoolwide assembly; college fair; school-wide anti-bullying program; healthy cooking classes for families

Tier 2 Targeted services typically provided in a group setting to students with a common need.

Examples of services: tutoring, mentoring, attendance monitoring

Tier 3 Intensive, individualized services typically provided in a one-on-one setting to students with highly specific needs.

Examples of services: mental health counseling, mentoring, emergency clothing, food baskets

From a modest beginning of three (3) schools, CIS now coordinates the delivery of integrated students services in 42 schools through partnerships with 13 independent school districts and in Aransas, Brooks, Jim Wells, Kleberg, Nueces, and San Patricio counties.
